LRS, together with Dr. Craig Blake (Universitas Hospital Orthopaedic Surgeon), designed a custom total talus implant for a patient with a collapsed talus. The surgery was performed at Universitas Hospital in Bloemfontein.
The implant was designed using the patient’s CT scan and by mirroring the healthy talus. This was then 3D printed in Ti6Al4V with a trabecular mesh to ensure osseointegration.
This marks yet another province in South Africa, where we are now privileged enough to provide this as a treatment option for patients.
