LRS designed a custom total talus implant for a patient with a failed ankle replacement. The patient presented with severe pain and cysts in the distal tibia and talus.
The implant was designed using the patient’s CT scan and by mirroring the healthy talus. A custom tibial component was designed to fill the void in the distal tibia. The implant was then 3D printed in Ti6Al4V with a trabecular mesh to ensure osseointegration. The implant was designed in three parts, allowing the patient to retain full mobility.
The patient is 2 years post-op and pain free.
We are excited to be a part of a team that can provide the latest in custom implant designs to our clients and are looking forward to continuing doing so.
